That attitude provided broad rhetorical and ideological cover for tech moguls to refashion any industry in their image, from taxis to healthcare to real estate to the entire federal government. Their worldview upheld the pretense that creative destruction and technological innovation were synonymous with progress. If expertise was worthless—because the experts themselves represented the corruption of the ancien régime—then tech was a salvific force. And the people leading the tech vanguard were the ones doing the saving.
