The anti-elitist cosplaying of far-right elites

This is a startling contribution at Davos by the Heritage Foundation President. Note the clickbait ‘goes scorched earth’ and ‘globalist elites’ used by the organisation on their own YouTube video. His organisation is leading Project 2025 which is a detailed legislative agenda, as well as plan for implementation, which even on the most charitable reading is a plan for the rapid and radical orbanization of America. Yet as NBC reported:

Project 2025’s board of more than 80 conservative organizations includes nearly 40 that have received funding from dark-money groups linked to Leonard Leo, a major right-wing donor who influenced the shaping of the Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority under Trump.

Heritage itself received $57,497,537 over 18 years from 19 mostly family foundations. This is the nexus of large scale fund raising on the American right, which by its nature is opaque. Yet it presents itself with a straight face as an expression of a mass mobilisation against leftist elites. What really troubles me is the risk of disenchanted people breaking off from the left because they take this at face value, seeing it as a genuine oppositional force to an exhausted neoliberalism. Whereas it seems blindly obvious to me this is the expression of the most reactionary elements of capital, rather than something from outside of capitalism.
