As often happens when I genuinely stop working, I’ve been struck by an idea of something I would like to do which never occurred to me previously. Margaret Archer’s Social Origins of Educational Systems is the one major work by her I’ve never read in full. I’d like to finally get past the introduction next year. Would anyone like to join me? Please get in touch if so and I’ll send details once it’s ready to go as a practical plan.
If it goes well, I might run future reading groups on her later work but I’m keen to start with this one. I’ll be reading it through the lens of contemporary digital education so I’m particularly interested in people joining who might share this outlook. But it’s not mandatory by any means. It’s a dense work which I suspect I’ll never get round to finishing without the structure of a reading group, so I hope others might want to join me. If you’re not interested in this one but might want to join the others, just say and I’ll add you to a broader list.
