I’m currently reading Julia Ebner’s Mainstream about the normalisation of far-right conspiracies and their societal implications. She asks “what happens when we all become vulnerable?” early in the book when reflecting on the susceptibility of vulnerable people towards radicalisation. It’s not a new idea but I’m not sure I’ve heard the link between social suffering (and consequent vulnerability) and the uptake of conspiratorial worldviews framed in such a helpfully straight forward way before.
