Do you class yourself as Asexual? Would you be happy to talk about your life and experiences for a documentary? We are looking for asexual individuals who are willing to talk openly about their feelings for a television documentary. The production company, who work regularly with Channel 4 and BBC3, would ideally like to speak to people under the age of 35. However if you are older than this and have a strong story to tell then please get in touch. We want to get awell-rounded view of how life is for Asexuals, from relationships, to social lives, and the way society views sexuality. Ideally we would like to spend some time following contributors in their everyday lives, getting to know them personally and bring across individual personalities and lives on screen.
This will be a sensitive, honest look at Asexuality aiming to dispel common myths and preconceptions, and hopefully bringing it further into general public consciousness. The inspiration for pursuing this documentary is an older relative who spent 30 years of her life trying to be something she was not, feeling that she was unable to discuss her lack of sexual feelings with anyone. Only recently (in her early 80s) has she felt able to categorize herself with the arrival of groups like AVEN and the internet. It is for people like her that I would like to give Asexuals a platform to share their experiences. By showing the lives and feelings of real people to a large television audience the overall aim is to help people who are struggling with their sexuality feel more connected and less alone. Any help with this aim would be greatly appreciated.
