Writing comes as a liberation that is also a compulsion; it revives the self, yet it also demands the self’s absolute surrender; it invades even as it gives life. Writing, in Cixous’s rendering, requires the self to yield to a force outside of itself that speaks its meaning through the trembling body of the one who is being urged to swell to a size of a prophet.
