My annual letter from TV licensing says “naturally, we don’t want to contact you unnecessarily”. So why do they send me an annual letter? Every year TV licensing requests that those who do not own a TV “re-confirm” this. They require you to register as not owning a TV.
Does anyone else find this as absurd and irritating as I do? I don’t believe there’s any legal basis to this putative obligation. In fact I wonder if the strategy itself is potentially illegal. I’m only responding to this annual request to “re-confirm” because of the implied threat of harassment from Capita that would ensue if I ignore their requests.
I had the reverse problem. I had a TV, a licence but was unable to get a picture for four years due to digital switchover. Nobody was interested. It was a bit of a double standard.
