Living on the roof of the Arndale centre car park

I was exploring the roofs of Manchester carparks yesterday with the Modernist Society and it reminded me of the flats that used to exist at the top of the Arndale centre. I’ve always been fascinated by the fact there was a community on top of the shopping centre but yesterday I was struck by the sense this could have genuinely been a nice place to live. I found the sense of space at this elevation weirdly relaxing, with the clamour of the street below being surprisingly muted.
